In an effort to create opportunities that further the mission of SITC and expand the knowledge of and interest in cancer immunotherapy, SITC established the Forward Fund. Since 2014, SITC has awarded more than $5 million in funding to deserving early career scientists.
Made possible through SITC’s Forward Fund, the 2022 Women in Cancer Immunotherapy Network Leadership Institute (WINLI), offered five travel awards to supplement the travel costs for those who applied and were selected to attend this year’s program. Applications were open to all attendees and considered through a variety of factors including a statement of benefit and for those who self-identified as individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the biomedical sciences according to the NIH statement*. Two out of the five travel awards were specifically reserved for those from these groups.
*SITC follows the NIH’s Statement on Diversity, as well as their Underrepresented Populations in the U.S Biomedical, Clinical, Behavioral and Social Sciences for the review and selection of SITC’s Women in Cancer Immunotherapy Network Leadership Institute (WIN-LI) Travel Awards. By following the NIH Statement on Diversity, this program aims to enhance diversity by increasing participation of those from underrepresented groups by building, soliciting and including a diverse and inclusive audience.
